For many years, I’ve had this vision…
To gather the mothers, matriarchs, and nurturers in my life in celebration of the role we have taken on in our communities.
A role I’m seven years deep into taking on that transforms me in new ways with each passing year.
A role I have been blessed to witness many choose and initiate into as a birth professional, childbirth educator, & spirit medium.
A role I have grown to understand is expansive beyond concepts of gender or even children.
A role that has healed my relationship with my own mother, the ancestral mothers of my lineage, and Mother Earth.
On Saturday, May 9th, this vision will come to life for the first time and I’d love for you to join me.
What this gathering means to me
Matriarchs Day marks the opening of my home garden to our local village. Rhys & I have lovingly named this place Sunset Grove — our creative sanctuary for rest, play, art making, nourishment, and community connection.
It also is an invitation into the world I’ve been cultivating within myself and have so far shared in birthing rooms, postpartum homes, and Zoom rooms as a doula and spirit worker.
Sunset Grove is ready to activate as a welcoming space to offer tarot readings, healing sessions, and small retreats so this is also a sort of “grand opening” for this era of my life’s work.
This home sanctuary feels like a personal achievement post-marriage as well as a stepping stone to my wider calling to serve families committed to building more liberated, matriarchal futures.
Matriarchy is not about replacing men with mothers &/or women at the top of a hierarchy. It is about putting life at the center, prioritizing our children, and entrusting the mothers, nurturers, and creators with leadership.
I read this essay a while back titled “You’re not a single mother, you’re a matriarch” and have been chewing on the reframe ever since. As the author says, “We are the builders of the future world and the leaders of our communities.”
When I uplift matriarchs, I’m not only speaking about single mothers, but given that this is a role I have taken on and embraced, it feels like an important thing to name and claim for myself.
Inviting you all to my first home as a matriarch is a significant milestone for me.
There was a time where celebrating “single motherhood” felt shameful and embarrassing for me, but now its the most empowering choice I can imagine for myself.
I am so grateful to invite you all to celebrate it with me and if you’re unable to join us, I hope we can connect soon.
Have your portrait taken by MIDORI
If you haven’t met MIDORI (she/her) yet, she is my friend turned collaborator turned co-founder of Church of Soft Power and chosen sister 🌸
In addition to being a core presence in Rhys & I’s life, she is a visionary artist, astrologer, and photographer. From 12pm-2pm on Matriarchs Day, she’ll be in the garden as Sanctuary Studio, gifting guests the opportunity to have your family portrait taken.
Booking also doubles as your RSVP to the party 🥰 Reserving a photo time will help us plan for the day and also give MIDORI time to enjoy the celebration.
The Future of Sunset Grove Sanctuary
Matriarchs Day marks the soft opening of this space to my community and the plan is to continue cultivating an environment for people to experience my medicine.
In addition to taking more of my private client work offline, my vision for this space also includes:
a dedicated corner for Reiki sessions & body work
childbirth education classes
kids clothing & gear swaps
half day rest retreats
intimate group retreats for pregnancy loss
inviting peers to co-host conversations and workshops for mothers, parents, & families
art making, full moon circles, & more!
In order for Sunset Grove to fulfill its role as a communal sanctuary, I am welcoming support in the form of financial and material resources.
If you feel called, here are some ways you can support:
Donate with note ‘Sunset Grove’ so I can buy things secondhand via Zelle (415.948.3383) or Venmo (@siobhandiores)
If you made it this far, thank you for taking the time & I hope we connect soon.
Shared with love & gratitude,
Siobhan Diores
